As the camels settled beside the water, Layla slipped behind the silken screens of her bathing tent. She got down on her knees beside a basin and gently washed her face, letting the cool water soothe away the sand and weariness of the road. Warm clove and earthy myrrh scented the air as she continued bathing. Refreshed and rejuvenated, she rested beneath the palms. For one quiet evening, the kingdom could wait.
