On Halloween morning, a skeleton named Silas climbed out of his grave and brushed the cobwebs from his shoulders. Tonight was the annual Skeleton Ball, and he had a problem.

“You can’t go looking like that,” said his friend Bones. “You’ve got a whole year of dirt between your ribs.”

Soon, every skeleton in the graveyard was splashing in a claw-foot tub, passing around a large skull-shaped soap.

“A handsome fellow,” Silas said, holding it up.

“Family resemblance,” Bones replied.

By sunset, their bones were clean, their joints were rattling, and someone had finally found the missing foot beneath the bubbles. They set off for the ball, leaving muddy footprints all the way to the cemetery gate.
